Light Sensitive

Robert Ashton

The Gallery is delighted to present the well respected Australian photographic artist Robert Ashton’s Light Sensitive – a selection of recent Photogravure and Wet Plate Collodion artworks.

Working across digital and analogue processes — including large format photography, photogravure printing, and wet plate collodion — Roberts photographic artworks sit at the edge of the literal and the abstract, moving between the descriptive and the poetic, exploring the subtle exchange between light and space.

Robert Ashton brings a distinguished body of work shaped by decades of practice and international recognition. Multiple Finalist of the prestigious Bowness Photography Prize, his works are held in major public collections including the National Gallery of Australia, National Gallery of Victoria and Art Gallery of New South Wales, alongside numerous private collections worldwide.

Ashton’s practice explores landscape, light and space — where control meets chance and the literal dissolves into the abstract.
