Inspiration: Australian landscape, particularly desert areas as seen in Western Australia in and around the Pilbura region (from the indigenous word, bilybara, meaning dry land). Yet, there’s still beauty, colour and life.
The approach: As the painting emerged, I used light to express the desert heat – blurring the edges with a hint of refractory light, breaking down the paint or using dry brush method. The faded effects contrast with the more severe lines of snags and dried scrub. ‘Heat Reflections’ is a layered and textured intuitive impression, merged with memories of past travels.
