Potency and stillness, gesture and formality, external and internal.
Jessica Watson-Thorp captures dichotomies in her oeuvre.
A formally trained fine artist with more than 20 years’ experience, Watson-Thorp has consciously pushed and developed her practice
along a trajectory that investigates spirituality, emotion and the human condition.
Her process is loosely rooted in the mono-print technique, however, through printing, reprinting and lifting ink patterns using acid free
tissues she forms abstract compositions.
Recently, she has taken to creating topographic surfaces with a glazing medium and building up layers of tissue, oil-based inks and acrylic paints onto her canvas
Through her art, Watson-Thorp aims to connect with the viewer’s external and inner worlds
by offering a space for contemplation and inviting stillness
