Miss Edie and the cat

my paintings are created over months of adding layers of paint, texture, subject matter and meaning. This painting is from my last exhibition just prior to the lock down of 2020.

I have a family member in aged care, and as a frequent visitor I came across the resident cat. Miss Edie lives at the facility. I often see her, always immaculately dressed with her makeup applied, sitting quietly on her own. Every so often she comes across Molly the cat. She picks her up and her face just beams………perhaps the cat takes her memory back to her youth, or maybe the close tactile connection is enough. Whatever the reason, her face light up, and I have tried to capture that feeling on my canvas.
