Inspiration: Australia – an ancient land. Impressions of areas of Central Australia, Arrernte Country – earth, colour, shape, elements, contrasts and harmony. Importantly too, the intangible ambiance that is imbedded in Australian scenery.
The approach: I have layered the surface and applied texture to
create this intuitive and imaginative impression. I found myself creating a
strong contrast of movement between the background and foreground in this painting. At the same time the energy and the stillness interact and relate to
each other – a swirling, rumbling, rushing sound join with a soft humming chorus. The ancient land comes alive as a living, breathing thing. Both enigmatic and ethereal.
