This is a 1 of 2 commission pieces that will be worn by Football umpires within the Geelong, Surf coast, Bellarine and Colac Otway area for the next 3 seasons from 2023 to 2025 during indigenous round in partnership with AFL Barwon.
The design is a reflection of the Geelong, Bellarine, Surf Coast and Colac Otway landscape. It highlights the strong landmarks in the region as show by Bunjil, the spirt and creator of the lands depicted as an Eagle as he fly’s over the land’s. Included within the design is the powerful Barwon River and the tracks of the mighty Kangaroo which have lived on the lands here for over 60,000 years.
Also included in the design is my family including my two young children and my wife. There are two yarning circles which highlight the importance of football and the unity that football has that keeps people connected. It includes all competitions within the region and the umpires that officiate the sport.
At the bottom right of the design there are 5 people dancing, this group of people dancing represent people from all walks of life and celebrating people coming together, supporting each other in unity and inclusion regardless of age, culture, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, disabilities or the colour of their skin.
